Un tireur a semé la panique dans la capitale canadienne, Ottawa, mercredi 22 octobre autour de 10 heures heure locale (17 heures heure française). Un militaire qui surveillait un monument aux morts à proximité du Parlement a été tué. Des dizaines de coups de feu ont ensuite été entendus à l'intérieur du Parlement.
Le chef de la police a affirmé un peu plus tard que le seul assaillant, Michael Zehaf-Bibeau, un Canadien d'une trentaine d'années, avait été tué.
Ce jeudi matin, les députés ont pu quitter le Parlement. Ils doivent revenir cet après-midi pour une nouvelle séance.
Les premiers témoignages sur le drame sont venus de députés qui l'ont «livetweeté» depuis l'intérieur du Parlement où ils s'étaient retranchés. Voici les évènements tels qu'ils les ont racontés, au fil des minutes: les premiers coups de feu et l'odeur de poudre, les portes verrouillées, les tweets ayant pour but de rassurer les proches, le silence et la tension... mais aussi les demandes des médias, l'attente et la sortie.
